It was a long road trip that faced the Manchester Greyhounds football squad as they opened their season with a visit to Franklin Furnace for a matchup with the Green Bobcats. The outcome was not exactly what the Hounds were looking for as they opened Coach Gene Peterson's first season with a 40-6 defeat. Manchester fell behind early and could never quite get things in sync in the opening game loss. The Bobcats would turn in an outstanding offensive performance, chewing up yards on the ground and scoring at one point on six consecutive possessions.
Things looked promising early in the first period as the Hounds would recover a Green fumble on the Bobcats' first possession. Manchester got a first down on a nice Tyler Grooms run but at that point the drive stalled and the Hounds were forced to kick it away. The Bobcats took over on their own 42 and on their very first play, running back Cody Bruce took a pitch and swept around right end for a 58-yard touchdown run. The extra-point attempt was no good and the Bobcats had grabbed an early 6-0 lead.

The Dragons managed seven shots on goal for the game and goalkeeper Kaleb Griffin did come up with 18 saves, some of them of the spectacular variety.
