North Adams Dairy Team are State Runners-Up
The North Adams FFA Dairy Judging Team recently completed a very successful year of competition. The Wilmington Aggies hosted the first contest of the spring season, where the North Adams team placed 5th out of 30 teams.

Benefit planned for West Union children
The Emma Claire and Quintin Joseph Foundation Board of Directors will be hosting a benefit on Saturday, June 2, at the Aberdeen Lions Club Park and Morgan ball field. A spaghetti dinner, softball and cornhole tournaments are planned.

First Baptist Church of West Union will begin having Friendship Parties each month for families with special needs children. The first party will be held on May 19 at 10 a.m. in the basement of First Baptist Church. This will be a ministry reaching out to families with special needs children.

Very often it is said that beating a team three times in one season can be difficult. In the game of fast-pitch softball, that task can be even more difficult when your team commits six errors, allows 12 unearned runs, and falls behind 16-2.

From Satch to the Seniors
Almost inconceivably, it is that time of year again. The time when another group of young people will leave their high school days behind and step out into another phase of life, another step closer to adulthood. These young folks will listen to much advice and many speeches over the next few weeks, and as I can vouch for, won't remember much of what was said at all. The euphoria of graduating seems to dull the other senses considerably.

Dragons upset by Northwest in tourney opener 5-4


Seeded number six and facing a number 11 seed, the West Union Dragon baseball squad seemed to have pretty good odds of advancing to a sectional final. A win over #11 seed Northwest would have accomplished that feat but as they say, "You still have to play the game. Games aren't won or lost on paper."

Greyhound baseball falls in sectional opener, 8-1 to Whiteoak
An old baseball adage says that good pitching will beat good hitting any time and that was exactly the situation facing Coach Matthias Applegate and his Manchester Greyhound baseball squad last Wednesday as they opened sectional tournament play. The tournament draw set the Greyhounds up in a sectional final matchup with a familiar foe, the Whiteoak Wildcats and the Cats were set up with their ace, Gage Carraher on the mound.

Indians bow out of sectional tournament in first game
Take away the first inning and it may have been a different story. Taking the bus ride to Huntington Ross, Coach Judd Johnson and his Peebles Indians baseball squad certainly didn't have any notions of what was going to happen to them in the first inning of their opening round sectional tournament game last Wednesday afternoon.

Piketon takes out Lady Devils in sectional tournament


A very young North Adams Lady Devils softball squad, seeded #12, faced their first tournament action on May 8, hitting the road to face the 14-8 and #5 seeded Piketon Lady Redstreaks. It didn't go well for the Lady Devils as they could only manage a single run in a 15-1 five-inning run rule defeat to Piketon.

NAHS schedules girls basketball camp for end of May
Coach Rob Davis and his staff have announced the dates for the 2012 Lady Devils Basketball Camp. The camp dates will be May 29, 30, and 31 and will be open to students entering second through eighth grades this fall.
