It didn’t seem probable a week ago for Coach Kirk Bunn and the North Adams boys soccer team, that being a shot at a share of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference championship. The Green Devils have had an outstanding regular season, finishing 14-2-1, one of those losses coming to Fayetteville in conference action.

Fayetteville went into last weekend unbeaten in conference play but stumbled on Saturday, losing to Lynchburg 3-0 to allow North Adams to climb into a first-place tie, both finishing 7-1 in the SHAC.

The Green Devils were a solid team all season on both ends of the pitch, a solid defense led by senior Dalton Pence among others, and an offense paced by two of the top five goal scorers in the SHAC- seniors Tristan Young and Preston Call with 22 and 19 goals respectively. Playing goal for the first time, junior Thaddeus Moore tied the conference lead with seven shutouts.

With a very successful regular season behind them, the Green Devils are looking to make a long tournament run,one that begins on October 16 at 6 p.m. on their home field in Seaman, hosting the winner of Tuesday’s match up between Whiteroak and Rock Hill. A win there could set up a potential district semifinal confrontation with the Minford Falcons who knocked off the Devils 3-2 on October 9.
