If you are one of those golf fans who likes to spend a Sunday afternoon watching an exciting final round of a PGA event, then the final round of the 2025 Southern Hills Athletic Conference Boys Golf Tournament would have been right up your alley. Going into the final nine holes, which were played at Hilltop on September 18, four golfers were within six strokes of the lead and only a single stroke separated the top two teams. defending champion Lynchburg and the West Union Dragons.
In the individual race, Lynchburg’s Nolan Wilkin led after three rounds, by one stroke over defending champion Parker Hayslip from Manchester and North Adams’ Christopher Hall. Six strokes behind was West Union’sd Teagan Knox and that quartet of golfers were set up in the same foursome for the final round, which obviously drew a large crowd of fans following them through the nine holes.
The actual medalist for the fourth round was Eastern Brown’s Marcus Lynch, who shot a one-under 35 for the day which propelled him into fifth place overall. Manchester’s Elijah Crabtree shot an even par 36 as did Hall, Hayslip ended up one over at 37, with Knox three over at 39. Wilkin slipped to a 40 in the final round, dropping him to third overall. After that all played out, it was Hall claiming his first SHAC championship in three tires, with Hayslip just coming up short of defending his title, falling short by just one stroke. Knox ended up fourth overall in the individual standings.
”Winning SHAC was definitely a highlight of the year.” said Hall. “With it being my senior year it made SHAC so much more important to me and being able to pull off the win didn’t even seem real. With it being my last SHAC match it was also my last home match so it was emotional. But being able to enjoy the win at my home course I grew up on spending hours there with my Dad and him always helping me with golf just made the win even more meaningful to me.”
The top 15 golfers in the tournament earn All-SHAC honors and eight of those came from Adams County schools: Christopher Hall (North Adams), Parker Hayslip (Manchester), Teagan Knox (West Union), Samuel Griffis (West Union), Elijah Crabtree (Manchester), Landon McIntosh (West Union), Alex Dillow (West Union) and gage Bennington (Peebles).
In the race for the team championship, Lynchburg came into the final round with just a one stroke lead over second place West Union but over the final nine holes of competition, the Mustangs were able to pad their lead and ending up winning their second consecutive SHAC Tournament by eight strokes. The top team score for the final round was turned in by the Manchester Greyhounds, who shot a team total of 160, led by Hayslip and Crabtree.
