State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) strongly encourages State and Federal governments to fund the construction of Interstate 73, planned to run near Portsmouth, Ohio.
“Interstate 73 would be a lifeblood for Southern Ohio,” said Johnson. “The governor’s office and ODOT need to hear loud and clear just how important we feel this new interstate highway is to the future of our region.”
Interstate I-73 is currently undergoing a feasibility study by the Ohio Department of Transporation, which is scheduled to finish in December of 2026. This interstate is planned to run though Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
“This is something I have advocated for at the Ohio Statehouse since I first arrived here as a State Representative in 2011. It’s a major reason that I so strongly advocated for the Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway, which I knew would be a linchpin for getting the interstate project moving south towards us. My whole 14th Senate District would prosper from this project, especially if a spur could be built westward along SR-32 towards Cincinnati..”
Senator Johnson also stresses that this new interstate would assist with emergency evacuations, allow for a speedy response from state and local emergency services.
Senator Johnson represents the 14th District in the Ohio Senate, which encompasses all of Adams, Brown, Clermont, and Scioto counties.
