Stephen M. Darby, 72 years, of West Union, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, at his home, surrounded by close family.
Steve was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on Sept. 12, 1946, the son of the late Oscar and Jane (Davis) Darby. Steve was a lifelong educator, as well as a 4-H advisor, and a coach for several sports. He served as a pastor for the Dunkinsville United Methodist Church, after serving as the former pastor of the Seaman Community Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelley Darby; and by a sister, Mary Jane Kropf. Steve is survived by his wife, Nancy (LePere) Darby, whom he married on April 27, 1968, and by two daughters, Julie (Lynn) Weeks of West Union; and Sarah (Aaron) Bischoff of Paw Paw, Michigan. He also leaves behind two sisters, Bonnie (Steve) Krieger of Manchester and Debbie (Bob) Sutton of Bright, Indiana; and two grandsons, Andrew Weeks and Aden Weeks.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, at the Seaman Community Methodist Church in Seaman, Ohio. The ceremony was officiated by Ray Degenkolb and burial followed at the Cherry Fork Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Steve’s name to either the Dunkinsville United Methodist Church, C/O Brenda and Mike Crackel, 14460 State Route 41, West Union, Ohio 45693; or to the West Union Football Team, C/O Scott McFarland, 405 Lookout View Drive, West Union, Ohio 45693; or to Heartland Hospice, 333 N. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Lewis-Sullivan Chapel.
