The Manchester football Greyhounds are off to the fastest start in team history and they added one more to their record book last Saturday, September 20, that being the first 5-0 start. Win number five came as a result of a 48-0 home win over the visiting Vanlue Wildcats.

“We had two goals going into the game. Shut their offense down and score fast and often.” said Manchester head coach Justin Schmitz. “Our guys got it done on both sides of the ball.”

“On special teams Jasper Walker stepped up for us going 4-6 kicking extra points. Gage Stephens did a great job anchoring our d-line and taking on double teams all night. Any time you see our linebackers running free that’s thanks in large part to to the work up front of Gage and Mason Vaughn.”

The unique starting time of Saturday at 4 p.m. brought out a nice home crowd for the Greyhounds, something that didn’t go unnoticed by the head coach.

“It was pretty awesome to see the community come out and pack the stands and see the stadium fences lined with people,” commented Coach Schmitz.

Even with the win, the Hounds dropped one spot in the Harbin computer rankings for Division VII, Region 28, , coming in at #8, with the top 12 qualifying for the OHSAA playoffs.

Manchester will look to make it six in a row this weekend with another 4 p.m. Saturday kickoff, this time on the road. The Greyhounds will travel to Crestline, Ohio to battle the host Crestline Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are 3-2 on the season,a record that includes a 48-6 win over Vanlue.
