Rev. Captain Norman O. Williams

The Rev. Captain Norman O. Williams, age 82, passed away suddenly on Feb. 5, 2019 at his home in Aquanga, California. He is survived by his wife Sue Williams of 58 years, and brothers Bill, John and sisters Carol, Patty and Sherry (deceased). He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen (Carol) Williams. He and his wife Sue had two sons, Andy and Nik, and a daughter Amy of Montana. Her son Tod is Sue and Norman’s only grandson.

Norman was born to his parents while living in Seaman, Ohio. In this beautiful town he attended grade school and was graduated from high school in 1955. During this time, he and five of his friends earned the Boy Scout recognition of Eagle Scout. Of all his future accomplishments, this award was close to the top.

He was graduated from Asbury University, and having completed seminary, he was ordained an elder of the United Methodist Church in 1964. He then pastored churches in Ohio for 19 years, and then became a Chaplain of the United States Navy for 26 years. One of his missions was held during “Desert Storm”. He never talked much about this adventure, but he was very much gratified to be in this ministry for his country.

One thing he did share with some of his buddies while serving in the military was The People’s Defender newspaper. They all looked forward to each and every weekly copy.

In June of 2011, Norman and other military officers conducted a camp for 22,000 boys at “Boy Scout Ranch” in Phil Mont, New Mexico. Norman really enjoyed this opportunity and also the exploring of the rugged mountains in the area.

On June 15, 2019 there will be a memorial service for Rev. Williams on what would have been his birthday at 11 a.m. in Seaman, Ohio at the United Presbyterian Church on Main Street with a bereavement meal following the service.
