High school soccer action is heating up in the county as all five county girls and boys teams were in action at some point last week, with the results here being dated as of Monday morning, September 8.

Coach Kierra Wagner and the Peebles Lady Indians evened their record at 3-3 on the season by winning two of three contests last week and barely missed making it a three-game sweep. On September 2, the Peebles girls traveled to Zane Trace and came home with a slim 1-0 victory, the lone goal coming off the foot of senior Aiva Brumley with sophomore goalkeeper Kendall Myers getting the clean sheet between the pipes. The next day, the Lady Indians hosted Eastern Brown and fell just short by a 1-0 score, but rebounded the next day to knock off Felicity 3-1. Peebles got goals from Brumley, freshmen Willow Bohl and Katie Myers with Kendall Myers making eight saves in the goal.

Coach Stone Crothers and his Peebles boys squad were off to a 4-2 start, splitting two games last week. On September 3, the Tribe fell to undefeated Eastern Brown by a 3-0 county but came back the next day to get their fourth win, a 4-0 triumph at Felicity, getting scores from Connor Gross, Caleb Phipps, Paxton Ryan and Colyn Sims with sophomore Jack Fitzgerald getting the win in goal.

The West Union boys, coached by Silas Mills, stood at 1-4 on the year and were in the midst of a four-game losing streak, dropping decisions to Eastern Brown (3-0), Peebles (5-0), North Adams (5-1) and Fayetteville (4-0). The Dragons have struggled offensively, scoring just one goal in those losses after tallying nine in a season-opening win at Piketon.

Coach Morgan Hendrickson and her North Adams Lady Devils also had a good week, earning two wins and breaking out of their own offensive slump in a big way with an 8-0 win at Piketon and a 6-0 win over Washington Court House sandwiched around a 6-0 loss at Western Brown. In the win at Piketon, North Adams got two goals each from senior Kensley Cornette, sophomore Ava Pemberton, freshman Marnie Tolle and freshman Lilly Wooten with Bella Gray getting the shutout as keeper with three saves. In the win over Washington, the Lady Devils were led by a hat trick from senior Carlee Garrison, her first three goals of the season.

Finally, Coach Kirk Bunn and the North Adams boys held the best record in the county, standing at 7-1 (3-1 SHAC) as of Monday morning with a showdown with Peebles scheduled for that afternoon. Last week, the Green Devils captured their fourth win in a row, knocking off Western Brown 7-1. Scoring for the goals for the winners were sophomore Jaxon Baldwin (2), senior Beau Hesler, junior Jayden Reckers, freshman Kyser Swayne and senior Tristan Young (2) getting the win in goal while collecting three saves was junior Thaddeus Moore.
