It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John R. “Jake” Skinner, Sr., a cherished husband, father, and friend, who left this world on July 8, 2025, at the age of 83. Born in Adams County on November 11, 1941, John lived a life marked by dedication, service and love. He wass preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Beulah (Brodt) Skinner; son, Charles “Chuck” Skinner; and sisters, Alpa Poole and Patricia Skinner.

John is survived by his wife, Nancy Jane (Vance) Skinner. He also is survived by a blended family and his children, Tonya Jean Countryman, J.R. (Amber) Skinner, Kyle Skinner and Taylor (Cody) Skinner-Cox; also Nancy’s children, Angie Holton, Phillip Vance, Tracy Vance and Andrea Vance. He also leaves behind two brothers, Stanley “Peanut” Skinner and Gary Skinner; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John recently retired after 14 years as an aviation technician with Ames Airborne Maintenance Engineering Services in Wilmington, Ohio. He was also a member and deacon at the Church of Christ in New Vienna and a member of the F&AM 236 Winchester Masonic Lodge and served six years in the Army National Guard.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the New Vienna Church of Christ. Celebration hours will be from noon – 4 p.m.

The family requests that guests can bring a covered dish.
