The postseason accolades continue to roll in for high school basketball players from the Southern Hills Athletic Conference and recently the Associated Press released its All-Southeast District Teams for the 2016-17 season.  The All-District Teams are chosen by media from AP newspapers, also considering recommendations from the sports departments of non-AP publications, such as The People’s Defender.

All of the teams in the SHAC are in either Division III or Division IV and in Division III girls, Eastern Brown’s Allison Day (Jr., 16.5) and Lynchburg’s Peyton Scott (So., 20.4) both earned First Team Honors, with Eastern Brown’s Kevin Pickerill being named the Southeast District Division III Girls Coach of the Year.
The Division III Second Team was loaded with SHAC names, including Eastern Brown’s Alexa Pennington (So., 10.7), North Adams’ Lakyn Hupp (Jr., 15.4), North Adams’ Avery Harper (Jr., 13.6), Lynchburg’s McKayla Binkley (Sr., 17.0), and Peebles’ Jessica Sowards (Sr., 18.7).
On the AP Third Team in Division III were Eastern Brown’s Mikayla Farris (Jr., 10.0) and Lynchburg’s Hannah Binkley (Sr., 15.9).
Special Mention in Division III went to West Union’s Jaycee Baldwin and Peebles’ McKinlee Ryan.
In Division IV girls, the only honorees from the SHAC were Fairfield’s Grace Shope (Jr., 17.4), who was named to the First Team, and Special Mention honors going to Whiteoak’s Maggie Carr and Fairfield’s Blake Adams.
In Division III Boys, Lynchburg’s Eric McLaughlin (Jr., 20.4) was named First Team All-District.  Teammate Joe Giordano (Sr., 18.4) was named to the Second Team.
Third Team All-District recognition went to Eastern Brown’s Blake Rigdon (Sr., 14.0), Eastern Brown’s Garyn Purdy (Jr., 13.0), West Union’s Craig Horton (Sr., 8.3), and North Adams’ Patrick England (Sr., 9.7).
The SHAC earned another First-Teamer as Peebles Camron Gordley (Sr. 21.0) was named to the First Team in Division IV Boys.  Gordley’s teammate Tanner Arey (Jr., 19.6) was named Second Team All-District along with Fairfield’s Jesse Current (Sr., 11.9), and Manchester’s Kaulen Cox (Sr., 16.4).
Third Team honors in Boys Division IV went to Fairfield’s Jensen Daulton (Sr., 16.2), while Special Mention in Div. IV went to Fairfield’s Wyatt Evans, Whiteoak’s Trever Yeager, and Manchester’s Colton Thornburg.
