Fairfield High School was the chosen site for the 2019 Southern Hills Athletic Conference High School Track Meet. The May 10 event matched up the best of the best in the conference in track and field and when it was all said and done, it was the Peebles girls squad that proved to be the best team in the SHAC, riding a wave of eight first-place finishes on their way to the girls’ team title.
The Lady Indians dominated the individual and relay champions list, with sophomore Lilly Gray winning the 400 Meter and 800 Meter Dash, senior Jenny Seas capturing the 1600 and 3200 Meter Runs, junior Kierra Stone winning the 300 Meter Hurdles, and the Peebles quartets taking the 4 x 100, 4 x 200, and 4 x 400 relays.
“Winning the SHAC was a big accomplishment for our team,” said Peebles head coach Tyler Wilson. “It was one of our goals we had set at the beginning of the season and the girls really stepped up and performed. We had several top finishes and got a lot of help from our field events this year. I’m very proud of all of the kids in the way that they rose to the occasion and competed in a way that I knew they could.”
Adams County also produced numerous other SHAC champions, including the West Union girls 4 x 800 relay event. North Adams freshman Sierra Kendall won the Girls Long Jump and classmate Lizzie Gill took the Girls Shot Put. On the boys side, West Union senior Conner Campbell was a double champion, winning the 200 Meter Dash and the Long Jump. North Adams freshman Jacob Campbell also won the Boys High Jump event. All of the individual and relay champions will be honored at the SHAC Spring Sports Awards at Eastern High School on May 28.
At the May 10 SHAC meet, points were awarded to the top eight finishers in each event, on the typical sliding scale of 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.
