News Release

This summer Victoria “Tori” Cheatham, a Peebles High School freshman, will travel to China for four weeks of language and culture immersion. Tori has been awarded a scholarship valued at $5,250 through the CIEE High School Study Abroad program. The scholarship is in honor of Mr. Jianhua Bai, a professor of Chinese at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
Tori will live with a host family in Nanjing, a large city known for its historic temples and tombs from several Chinese dynasties. Although Tori has had no previous experience with Mandarin Chinese, she is currently finishing up her first year of studying Spanish at Peebles High School.
Her language studies in China will consist of 60 hours of in-class Mandarin instruction plus local field trips. We are proud to have our very own global ambassador representing Adams County.
Tori is the daughter of Andrew Cheatham and the granddaughter of Chris Cheatham. She is active in Beta Club, Spanish Club, cheerleading, and the musical at Peebles High School. She was selected as Student of the Month earlier this year. In her free time she also enjoys riding horses.
On behalf of the PHS staff, Robin Boling has set up a Fifth Third Memorial account in Tori’s name. Donations to offset the out-of-pocket expenses of her flight and travel vaccinations can be made at any Fifth Third Bank.
