Joseph Lewis Yates was born on Nov. 27, 1930. He passed away March 18, 2019 at his home at the age of 88 years, three months, and 19 days.
He was previously married to Loretta Johnson Secrest. To this union two daughters were born, Sheila Yates Carter and Barbara Jo Yates Downing.
On Dec. 10, 1960 he was united in marriage to Thelma Moore Frazier. This union added another daughter: Tammy Lynn Frazier.
After Joe retired, he and Thelma enjoyed camping and spending their winters in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma, his parents Harry and Maude, his sister Georgia Woolard, his brothers Harry C. Yates and Albert Yates, and a grandson Dougie Downing.
Surviving are his daughters, Sheila Carter, Barbara Downing, and Tammy (Randy) Brewer, grandchildren, Jonda (Greg) Young, Cody (Michelle) Carter, Benji (Kerinda) Downing, Kyle (Heather) Brewer, Scott (Ashlea) Brewer, and Ryan (Jessica) Brewer; great grandchildren, Brayden, Rylie, and Bryce Young, Kayleigh, Kameyl, and Kloey Carter, Addie and Ambree Downing, Sophia and Piper Brewer; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 21 at the Wilson Home for Funerals in Manchester. Rev Richard Lloyd will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Manchester Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
