On July 10, at approximately 2:16 p.m., a two-vehicle fatal crash occurred at the intersection of SR 131 and SR 134 in Salem Township, Highland County.
A 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD pickup truck operated by Charles Crabill, 60, of Pleasant Plain, was traveling southwest on SR 134. A 2009 Pontiac G5 operated by Brice Lynch, 17 of Seaman, was traveling east on SR 131.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the Pontiac failed to yield from a stop sign and was struck by the Chevrolet. Both vehicles drove off the roadway striking a barn.
Lynch was ejected as result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Crabill was transported by ground to Mount Orab Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Lynchburg Fire and EMS and the Highland County Coroner’s Office.
Lynch was a student at the Ohio Valley Career and Technical Center where he served as chaplain of the CTC Skills USA.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Georgetown Post is currently investigating a three-vehicle fatal crash involving a motorcycle. The crash occurred on State Route 32 near the intersection of U.S. 62, Eagle Township, Brown County, Ohio at approximately 9:28 a.m. on July 13.
A preliminary investigation reveals that a blue 2004 Yamaha FZ6 motorcycle, operated by Charles T. Rump, age 28 of Seaman, Ohio was traveling westbound in the left lane on State Route 32. A gold 2012 Volvo XC60, operated by Michael W. Sheely, age 74 of Winchester, Ohio, was stopped in the left lane of State Route 32 at a red traffic signal. A white 2021 Chevrolet 6500HD truck, operated by Monty Fairly, age 60 of Sardinia, Ohio, was stopped in the right lane at the red traffic signal. Mr. Rump failed to maintain assured clear distance and struck the Volvo in the rear-end. Mr. Rump then struck the Chevrolet 6500HD before coming to rest.
Mr. Rump was pronounced deceased at the scene by EJFED EMS and the Brown County Coroner’s Office. Mr. Rump was wearing a DOT helmet at the time of the crash.
A passenger in the Volvo, Sharon Sheely was not injured in crash.
Units assisting on scene were EJFED EMS and Fire, Brown County Coroner’s Office, and Ohio Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation by the Georgetown Post.
