The West Union Lions Club has announced that the living veterans of Adams County have been selected as the Grand Marshals for the 2026 Independence Day Parade in West Union. The parade will be held on Saturday, July 4, beginning at 10 a.m.
As the nation celebrates the commemoration marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, the club has chosen to honor the men and women of Adams County who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The recognition includes living veterans representing all branches of military service and all periods of service.
For 250 years, the freedoms enjoyed by Americans have been protected and preserved by those who answered the call to serve. From generation to generation, veterans have defended the nation, its communities, and the principles upon which America was founded. This year’s selection recognizes the dedication, sacrifice, and service of local veterans, whether they served during wartime or peacetime, at home or abroad.
The West Union Lions Club is inviting all living Adams County veterans to participate in the parade as Grand Marshals. Veterans who wish to participate should arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. on July 4 at the Historic Olde Wayside Inn in West Union, which will serve as the parade staging site for participating veterans. Transportation will be provided for veterans during the parade. To assist with transportation, planning, seating, and other arrangements, veterans are asked to contact the club by calling (937) 544-4131. Veterans may also send a private message through the club’s social media page with their name and contact information.
The club encourages local businesses, organizations, civic groups, churches, and individuals to participate in the parade or attend as spectators. Parade lineup for all entries will begin at 9 a.m. along Cherry Street, with the parade stepping off at 10 a.m.
The annual Independence Day Parade remains one of Adams County’s longest-standing community traditions and serves as a celebration of the nation’s independence, local pride, and community spirit.
Community members are encouraged to help spread the word to Adams County veterans so that as many as possible can be recognized during this special America 250 celebration.
