Virgil Lee Phipps, age 88, of West Union, Ohio, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026 at the Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley Inpatient Center in Seaman, Ohio.
Virgil was born December 17, 1937 in Adams County, Ohio, the son of the late Leslie Phipps and Garnet (Covert) Phipps.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy Lee Phipps and Todd Allen Phipps; and one brother, Donald Phipps.
Virgil is survived by one son, Darrell Phipps and wife Kim of Loveland, Ohio; two brothers, Carl Phipps of Peebles, Ohio and Ralph Phipps of West Union, Ohio; one sister, Dorothy Miller of West Union, Ohio; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one special canine companion, Duke.
Virgil was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and was often accompanied by Duke.
When Virgil wasn’t hunting him, Duke was often seen riding around exploring the countryside, or putting out corn for the deer. In their downtime, you could find them watching their favorite television shows together.
A memorial service was held Friday, March 13, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Lafferty Funeral Home with Timothy Phelps officiating.
