Libraries are a feast for the imagination! This November, join us for a leaf-tastic lineup of programs as bright and colorful as autumn. Enjoy Storytime, after school programs for children and teens, and a relaxing coloring program for adults. Moreover, as we celebrate the season of gratitude, we will be collecting donations for our local homeless shelter and writing heartfelt letters to veterans.
From November through early December, your local Adams County Public Libraries are offering a season full of creativity, learning, and community giving. At the North Adams Library, you can make a meaningful difference this holiday season by donating new personal and health care items to support our local homeless shelter. Items like shampoo, soap, deodorant, and toothpaste may seem small, but they can provide comfort and dignity to those in need. You can also lend your creativity and gratitude by joining the library on Friday, November 7, at 5:30 p.m. to create thank-you cards for veterans. Supplies will be provided, and your handmade card will help express appreciation to those who have served.
Storytime continues to be a favorite for families. You can bring your preschooler to Storytime at 11 a.m. each week: Tuesdays at the North Adams Library, Wednesdays at the Peebles and Manchester Libraries, Thursdays at the West Union Library, and an additional session at 5 p.m. on Thursdays at the Manchester Library. Storytime introduces children to rhythm, rhyme, and the joy of books, setting the foundation for early literacy. When children listen to stories, sing songs, and participate in activities, they strengthen language skills, build focus, and gain confidence that helps prepare them for kindergarten success.
You can also bring your little ones to Playtime in the Library at the Manchester Library from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5. This special program for preschoolers invites hands-on exploration through sensory and independent play. As children build, imagine, and interact, they develop important motor and social skills, while discovering the world around them in a safe and engaging environment.
For school-age kids, the thrills continue with programs designed to inspire creativity and learning. Join the Peebles Library every Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. for a smorgasbord of crafts, puzzles, and makerspace fun. Over at the North Adams Library, kids can participate in an afterschool STEAM adventure on Wednesday, November 5, at 3 p.m., where math mysteries and puzzles await. And at the Manchester Library, Crafternoon takes place every Thursday at 2:30 p.m., offering imaginative and hands-on projects that encourage creative thinking.
We have programs for teens, too! Explore culture and creativity at the North Adams Library on Thursday, November 6, at 2:30 p.m., with the Native American Pictograph Stories program. Create a pictograph tale and see if a friend can interpret it. You can also join the Peebles Library at 3 p.m. that same day to experience the Nintendo Labo VR Kit to design, build, and play a Toy-Con creation.
Lastly, you can enjoy some peaceful time at the Manchester Library’s Adult Coloring Club on Friday, November 7, at 2:30 p.m. This relaxing program lets you unwind and rediscover the joy of simple, mindful creativity.
