Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies responded to a reported shooting Saturday afternoon in West Union. According to authorities, Adams County Dispatch received several 911 calls at approximately 4:07 p.m. on October 11, 2025, regarding a possible shooting in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree store.
West Union Police Department officers were dispatched immediately, joined by units from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Chief Baker of the Peebles Police Department. When officers arrived, they confirmed that a shooting had taken place in the parking area outside the store.
The suspect, identified as Dakota E. Adamson, 29, of West Union, was quickly located by responding officers. Authorities said Adamson was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Adams County Jail.
The victim, Timothy J. Harris, 41, of Chillicothe, was transported to the Adams County Regional Medical Center for treatment. Officials confirmed that Harris was later released from the hospital. The extent of his injuries has not been detailed publicly.
Witnesses in the area reported a heavy police presence as investigators processed the scene. Officers remained at the Dollar Tree parking lot for an extended period, gathering evidence and interviewing individuals who were nearby when the incident occurred.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what may have led to the shooting or whether the individuals involved knew one another prior to the altercation. No additional suspects are being sought at this time.
The West Union Police Department is leading the investigation. Law enforcement officials said the case remains active and urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the West Union Police Department.
Residents in the area were thanked for their cooperation as investigators worked at the scene. No further threat to the public was reported.
The incident marks one of the most serious public safety responses in West Union in recent months, drawing attention to the continued coordination among local law enforcement agencies during critical incidents.
