Mary Ruth “Ruthie” Knauff, 88 years of age, of Peebles, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at the Adams County Regional Medical Center.
Ruthie was born on February 13, 1937, in Peebles, Ohio, the daughter of the late Leo “Dink” and Mary (Bowles) Swisshelm. Ruthie worked for the Adams County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher for many years. She attended the Sinking Spring Community Church.
In addition to her parents, Ruthie was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Leroy” Knauff; two sons, Mike Knauff and Steve Knauff; as well as her sisters, Shirley Swayne and Ella Swisshelm.
Ruthie is survived by her son, Brian and Angie Knauff,of Peebles; and her sisters, Betty Seaman of Peebles and Wealthy Dempsey of Felicity. Ruthie will be missed by her nine grandchildren and four grandchildren.
Following Ruthie’s wishes, she is to be cremated. A graveside memorial service was held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Locust Grove Cemetery with Greg Seaman officiating the memorial service.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home.
