We love getting creative at the North Adams Library, including junk journaling, crocheting, and creating duct tape organizers. Join us on Thursday, October 30 at 5:30 p.m. for a fun craft night where you can design your very own foam jack-o’-lantern, perfect for the spooky season!

This October, the Adams County Public Library is bringing you a variety of festive and enriching programs designed for children, teens, and adults alike. From educational Storytimes that build a foundation for reading, to creative after-school programs that spark imagination, to teen activities filled with excitement and adventure, your library has something special for everyone. Adults can also enjoy cozy fall evenings with lively book club discussions that intertwine community and literature. As the autumn season surrounds you with its crisp air and vibrant colors, you are invited to step into your library and discover programs that celebrate learning, creativity, and connection.
You can begin your seasonal journey with Storytime, an experience designed to delight preschoolers and inspire a lifelong love of reading. At the North Adams Library, Storytime takes place each Tuesday at 11 a.m. The Peebles Library offers Storytime each Wednesday at 11 a.m. The West Union Library holds sessions every Thursday at 11 a.m., while the Manchester Library welcomes families each Wednesday at 11 a.m. and each Thursday, at 5 p.m. Storytime is not only fun, but also essential in building the foundation for early literacy. By listening to stories, singing songs, and participating in enriching activities, children strengthen language skills, develop imagination, and learn social skills, preparing kids for kindergarten and providing learning resources to parents.
After-school hours bring even more excitement for children ages 6 to 11. At the Peebles Library, Smorgasbord Makerspace happens every Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. This program allows children to create, build, and explore their curiosity. On Thursday afternoons at 2:30 p.m., the Manchester Library offers Crafternoon, where young learners can design imaginative projects that celebrate both creativity and the season. Meanwhile, the North Adams Library hosts STEAM Adventures, where children can explore science, technology, engineering, art and math. On October 22, children can make silly or scary monsters. Programs such as these encourage learning beyond the classroom, while intertwining wonder with discovery.
Teens are not left out of the fall festivities. At the Peebles Library on Thursday, October 23, at 3 p.m., teens can design Minecraft Perler bead keychains, decorations, and magnets. On the same day, the North Adams Library welcomes teens at 2:30 p.m. for a glow stick scavenger hunt. Search the stacks for hidden glow sticks and then claim a reward at the desk.
Adults can also join in the fall spirit through book clubs that create space for conversation, reflection, and connection. At the North Adams Library, Novels and Nibbles will meet on
Thursday, October 23, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss Ghost Walk by Heather Graham. You will enjoy great company, lively discussion, and book-themed snacks that make the evening even more enjoyable. At the West Union Library on the same date and time, readers will gather for the second session of Shelf Indulgence to discuss Diane Chamberlain’s Breaking the Silence. These book clubs foster engaging dialogue, while providing heartwarming fall moments to share the love of literature.
The season is filled with opportunities to celebrate reading, learning, and creativity. The autumn days may be shorter, but your library offers meaningful programs that brighten every moment.
