Teegan, age six, read an astounding 18,225 pages during the Summer Reading Program. In recognition of her remarkable accomplishment, and for reading more pages than anyone else in the program at the North Adams Library, she received a certificate and a special prize. Congrats!

If you’re looking for a place where stories take you on adventures, crafts turn everyday afternoons into colorful creations, and laughter is always welcome, your library is the perfect destination. Whether you’re a parent eager to inspire a love of reading in your child, a teen looking for a creative escape, or a family searching for a fun weekend activity, the library has something for everyone. This month, our branches are brimming with activities designed to spark imagination, encourage learning, and build connections in our community. From themed Storytimes to hands-on crafts and movie afternoons, there’s never been a better time to stop by and see what’s happening.
Every week, Storytime fills the air with giggles and wonder. On Tuesdays at 11 a.m., you can join Storytime at the North Adams Library. Wednesdays offer a choice: the Peebles Library at 11 a.m. or the Manchester Library at the same time. And if mornings don’t work for you, Manchester’s Thursday evening Storytime at 5 p.m. is a perfect fit. The West Union Library also hosts Storytime on Thursdays at 11 a.m., making it easy to find a session that works for your schedule. You and your little ones can dive into delightful themes like camping, colors, and bunnies. Alongside themed books, there will be songs to sing and crafts to create, giving your child a boost as they get ready for kindergarten.
While you’re in the library, don’t forget to explore the magic of our Imagination Library. Through this program, children under five can receive a free book in the mail each month, building their very own home library and a lifelong love for reading. The program is supported in part by the sale of Dolly Parton Imagination Library license plates, so even your car can help bring stories to kids across the community. This act is a simple way to share the joy of reading and support early literacy for all.
If crafts are your style, mark your calendar for Crafternoon at the Manchester Library on Thursday, August 21, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. You’ll be making a cheerful summer popsicle using tissue paper, popsicle sticks, and construction paper. Designed for children ages 6 to 11, this hands-on activity is a great way to spend an afternoon creating something colorful and fun. At the end of the program, peruse our great selection of books to continue the learning adventure at home!
Teens, you haven’t been forgotten! On Wednesday, August 20, at 3 p.m., the Manchester Library invites you to Bad Art. In this program, celebrate creativity without the pressure of perfection. Whether your art looks amazing or a little wacky, you’ll leave smiling.
And for a cozy weekend activity, head to the Peebles Library on Saturday, August 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. for Movie Afternoon. We’ll be showing a fun adventure film for the whole family. Bring your friends, relax in the library’s comfortable setting, and enjoy complimentary popcorn and drinks. No registration is required, so you can simply drop by and join the fun.
Your libraries are here to bring stories, crafts, and community together, whether you’re a toddler just learning your ABCs or a teen looking for a creative outlet.
