Boys golf was in the spotlight for the day on Thursday, August 7as Hilltop Golf Course was the host for the 2025 Adams County Cup. The North Adams Green Devils, under the guidance of Coach Hannum Taylor, were looking for their fifth consecutive Cup trophy, but one of the teams in the county had other ideas.
For the first time since 2018, the Cup will be headed to Manchester High School as Coach Austin Kingsolver and the Greyhounds, behind some strong play from seniors Parker Hayslip, Eli Crabtree and Joel Blythe, managed to out duel the Devils, winning the Cup by two strokes in a contest that came right down to the wire, 332-334.
“I’m really proud of our kids,” said Coach Kingsolver after the win. “They all played well, especially our seniors down the stretch when it mattered most. “Parker (Hayslip) is always consistent for us and leads us every round. Joel (Blythe) played well all day and was huge for us to be in the position to close it out. Eli (Crabtree) finished strong and hit some great shots over the last five holes to finish his round.”
“All of our golfers work hard every day to get better and I’m happy they were able tog et rewarded for their hard work.”
Though North Adams was denied an impressive fifth consecutive Cup, the Green Devils did produce the day’s individual champion in senior Christopher Hall. Hall won the 18-hole event with a final score of 75, shooting 36 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine, good enough to get past last year’s Cup Champion, Manchester’s Hayslip, by three strokes. Hayslip went 40-38 to finish at 78.
The top six golfers in the Cup earn All-County honors and this year, besides Hall and Hayslip, that group includes Manchester’s Joel Blythe at 79 (37-42), West Union’s Samuel Griffis at 80 (41-39), Peebles’ Calen Vogler at 81 (41-40) and North Adams’ Cash Hupp at 83 (41-42).
