August is full of opportunities to connect, create, and explore at the Adams County Public Library. A wide variety of free programs for all ages will be offered throughout the month, from hands-on crafts and engaging Storytimes to exciting gaming events and wellness services.
Adults are invited to get creative at the West Union Library on Monday, August 11, at 5:30 p.m. during a special evening of Pinterest-inspired crafting. This relaxed, social event encourages participants to try something new, connect with others, and take home a handmade piece they’ll be proud to display. All materials are provided, and no experience is necessary.
Young children and their caregivers can look forward to weekly Storytime sessions that promote early literacy, social development, and a love of reading. Storytime is held every Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the North Adams Library. On Wednesdays at 11 a.m., both the Peebles and North Adams Libraries offer Storytime, while the West Union Library hosts its session every Thursday at 11 a.m. For families with busy daytime schedules, the Manchester Library also holds an evening Storytime on Thursdays at 5 p.m.
Free eye exams for youth aged 5 to 18 will be available at the Peebles Library on Tuesday, August 13. Offered in partnership with the Ohio Optometric Foundation, Vision to Learn, and the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, this service supports children’s vision and school readiness. Appointments are limited. To reserve a spot, call the Peebles Library.
Children aged 6 to 11 will enjoy Crafternoon programs designed just for them. At the Manchester Library on Thursday, August 14, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., participants can create their own summer-themed tic-tac-toe game. The West Union Library also hosts Crafternoon every Thursday at 3 p.m., offering crafts, games, puzzles, and science experiments that foster creativity and problem-solving.
Teens looking for an exciting and relaxed way to spend time with friends are invited to Game Day at the Peebles Library on Thursday, August 14, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. This program, for ages 12 to 18, features video games on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and retro-style arcade systems. Participants will rotate through stations to ensure everyone gets a turn. No registration is required, just bring your game face!
Minecraft fans can meet up at the West Union Library on Saturday, August 16, at 3 p.m. to play and collaborate on the library’s computers. From building structures to exploring new
worlds, this gaming session offers an engaging and interactive way to build skills and share adventures with friends.
Families can enjoy time together during Family Game Time at the West Union Library on Saturday, August 16, at 11 a.m. Classic board games and friendly competition provide a perfect way to bond, laugh, and unwind before the weekend.
For those who prefer crafting from home, the Manchester Library is offering Take-Home Craft Kits for all ages throughout August. Each kit includes instructions and materials for a fun, artistic activity, with options available for children, teens, and adults.
