Helen Eileen Grooms, 100, of Manchester, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the Hospice of Hope Inpatient Unit at the Adams County Regional Hospital. She was born June 9, 1924 in Bentonville, daughter of the late Harry Carl and Effie Melissa White Roush. She was the widow of the late Harold Grooms, who passed away in 2008. In addition to her loving husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Robert Roush.
Helen was a member of the Manchester Community Church. She was a 75-year Charter Member of the Nathanial Massie OES. She was also a member of the Young in Heart and the Red Hat Society. Helen enjoyed quilting and embroidering and loved her grandchildren with all her heart.
She is survived by her daughter, Karlene (Jim) Leonard; grandchildren, Dana (Shree) Leonard, Melissa (Troy) Hall and Haley (Justin) McGowan; great-grandchildren, Cameron (Jessica) Leonard, Breanna (Joel) Shiveley, Venessa (Justin) Ross, Landon Leonard, Hayden, Peyton and Elise McGowan; great-great-grandchildren, Carly Leonard, Brayden Ross, Hudson, Sutton and Willow Shiveley and Ethan Silvia; sister-in-law, Betty Pownall; close friend, Susan Young; special cousins, Bud, Mac and Doug White ;as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024 at the Wilson Funeral Home, 35 W. Second St., Manchester. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m on Tuesday, September 17 at the Manchester Community Church, 405 E. 8th St., Manchester. Pastor Bud Brabson will officiate. Burial will follow at Manchester Cemetery.
