“It was really exciting,” said Ty Pell, Chair of the Adams County Republican Party, about his recent trip to the Republican National Convention, which was held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 15 -18.

Pell was part of the Ohio group, which Adams County Prosecutor Aaron Haslam and his wife joined. He said they bussed into the convention from about an hour out of town. Pell described the security for the event as tight.

Pell knew many of the delegates and alternates at the convention, including J.D. Vance of Ohio, whom former President Trump announced as his running mate on July 15. Vance, a one-time Trump critic, has changed his tune about the former president. Vance, whom Pell considers a friend, spent a good deal of time with the Ohio delegation. Pell said, “He’s just a good, down-to-earth guy.”

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine hosted a cookout for the Ohio crew on Sunday before the event. Pell said he met delegates and several elected officials. They enjoyed a fireworks display that evening.

“The atmosphere was buzzing the entire time,” said Pell, who was down on the floor most of Monday listening to speeches. Unfortunately, he had to leave early and only stayed through professional entertainer and wrestler Hulk Hogan’s speech on the convention’s final evening.. Hogan ripped his shirt to a roaring crowd and gave an impassioned endorsement of Trump.

“There was no negativity anywhere—it was a positive message,” said Pell. “Trying to unite the country was the theme.”
