On May 4, the Winchester Alumni Association held their 97th annual dinner meeting with 92 members and guests in attendance. At the conclusion of the business meeting, three outstanding North Adams High School students were recognized and received an unrestricted $1,500 scholarship. These students were selected by a panel of North Adams teachers .
To qualify for this scholarship, the student must be a graduating 2024 senior and a descendant of a graduate or attendee of Winchester High School. The student must also be enrolled full time at a college, university or technical/career school for the 2024-2025 school year.
Mr. Karl Boerger, North Adams Principal, introduced the scholarship recipients to the Alumni attendees.
Kirsten Campbell will be attending Wright State University to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her parents are Dusty and Melissa Campbell. Kirsten is a descendant of several WHS graduates, including Rheta Swearingen Campbell, Ronald Swearingen, Linda (Mary) Swearingen, Fay (Carolyn) Swearingen, Harold (Blackie) Campbell, Blanchard (Buck) Campbell and Delores (Dee Swearingen).
Cody Hesler will be attending Shawnee State University to study Education with a focus on Middle School Math. Cody’s parents are Rick and Betsy Hesler. Cody is a descendant of Wand Hord Swearingen and Kenneth Swearingen.
Absent was Kenlie Jones who will be studying Speech-Language Pathology at either Mount St. Joseph University, Ohio State University or the University of Cincinnati. Her parents are Bradley and Leslie Jones. Kenlie is a descendant of Mary Bowman Naylor, Lora Bowman Little, Clara Bowman Roloson, Edward Bowman, Ray Bowman, Joe Bowman, Glenn Bowman, James Bowman, Jerry Naylor, Velma Jane Downing, Daniel Naylor and Rosemary Naylor Young.
