Press Release
The House Transportation Committee recently passed House Bill 487, legislation to designate TSgt. Grover Lee Swearingen Memorial Highway, announced bill sponsor, State Rep. Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County).
Specifically, the legislation will designate a portion of State Route 41 in Adams County as the TSgt. Grover Lee Swearingen Memorial Highway in honor of the World War II veteran.
“TSgt. Swearingen’s sacrifice will forever be remembered through the designation of this highway,” said Pizzulli during sponsor testimony. “My hope is that this highway serves as a reminder of TSgt. Swearingen’s legacy of bravery and servant leadership.”
After being held captive for over a year in a German prisoner of war camp, TSgt. Swearingen was awarded the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, a European African Middle Eastern ribbon with three battle participation stars, and two overseas service bars. On October 13, 2010, he was awarded a Purple Heart at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
House Bill 487 will now head to the House floor for a vote.
