For 2024 West Union High School graduate Scotlyn Adams, the opportunity was just what she was looking for, but just never though was going to come her way. When Coach Michael Felts began to put together the wrestling program at WUHS, he had a pretty good piece of the puzzle to work with in Adams. Over her outstanding high school wrestling career, she won over 130 matches, won a sectional championship, won a district championship, was a four-time state qualifier and two-time state placer.
When all that eventually came to an end, Adams thought her wrestling career had come to an end, not really being able to find a school close that offered girls wrestling at the collegiate level. Cue up Rio Grande University. When Rio Grande announced that it was adding women’s wrestling, Adams saw a chance to be part of the start of a new program, almost identical to what she had done in her high school carer.
