The wins have come sparingly this season for the West Union Lady Dragons but they were able to go on the road to Bethel-Tate High School on Monday, January 29 and add one to the left side of the ledger.
After a first quarter that saw the two teams deadlocked at 14 apiece, the Lady Dragons pulled ahead by three at the half, leading 21-18, West Union extended that lead by outscoring the Lady Tigers 14-6 in the third period and then wrapped up the win in the final eight minutes by the final count of 47-36.
Junior Ashlah Staten was West Union’s big gun on offense as she poured in 20 points , going 9 for 12 from the free throw line. Freshman Annabelle McIntosh also hit double figures with 11 points. Madison Stout added 9, and Shelbi Weakley led the way on the boards with 7 rebounds.
The Lady Dragons (5-12) will face a challenging task in their next outing on Thursday, February 1 as they host the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs, a team they lost to 70-18 back on December 4. On Monday, February 5 West Union will be in non-conference action on the road at Northwest and then back home on February 8 to finish conference play, hosting North Adams.
