The North Adams Lady Devils soccer team is back in the Division III district championship game, looking to defend their 2022 district. The Lady Devils advanced by virtue of a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Wheelersburg lady Pirates on Monday night in a game played on the turf at Northwest High School.
Monday night’s contest was a defensive struggle from start to finish with neither team able to score in the first half. The scores remained at zero for the first 14 minutes of the second half before North Adams senior Kenlie Jones scored what turned out to be the game’s only goal and the game-winner for North Adams. Keeper Harlee Brand and a stingy Lady Devils’ defense kept the Lady Pirates off the board, as Brand added another to her career shutout record.
The district championship game will be played on Thursday, October 26 at 6 p.m. at Lucasville Valley High school and the Lady Devils will face a familiar foe and perhaps have a bit of redemption on their minds. North Adams will battle the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs and as fans may remember, the two teams played an epic contest in last year’s District III regional semifinals with the Lady Mustangs winning on penalty kicks.
