The Sept. 27 Division II sectional golf tournaments were a successful venture for one local golfer and one local team as they moved through the sectional and advanced on to district competition this week. Peebles senior Carrington McGlothin and her squad played their sectionals at the Franklin Valley Golf Club and McGlothin became the first Lady Indians golfer in five years to move into district play.

Meanwhile on the same day but on a different course, the Jaycees Golf Course, the Manchester Lady Greyhounds captured the fifth spot in the team standings, meaning their entire team will be playing in the district tourney.

In the sectional tournament format, the top five teams plus the top five individual golfers not on those qualifying teams move on to districts and McGlothin grabbed the second of those five individual berths, shooting a 46 on the front nine and a 49 on the back for a 95 overall, good for sixth overall in 84 golfers, continuing her impressive senior campaign on the links.

McGlothin was joined on the sectional course by teammates Lydia Phipps (126), McKarlee Cooper (130), Annymae Cluxton (162),and Tara Tolle.

At the Jaycees, with 89 lady golfers on the course, the Lady Hounds were paced by sophomore Taylor Ralston, who placed 13th overall wit a 90, 48 on the front and then rebounding for a 42 on the back. Finishing just one spot behind her teammate, Manchester senior Kileigh Mitchell shot a 93 (45-48). while the Lady Hounds also got a 105 from Grace Hackney, 133 from Courtney Hall, and 135 from Doris Tadlock. Their 421 team total easily outdistanced sixth place Zane Trace (455).

One stroke behind Zane Trace and finishing seventh overall were the West Union Lady Dragons, paced by a 104 from sophomore Lauren Hoop. Also on the sectional course for West Union were Korynne Blanton (107), Payton Stapleton (118), Elayna Kingsolver (127), and Sofie Teeter (128).

Rounding out eh county competitors in the sectional at the Jaycees were the North Adams Lady Devils. The North Adams scores were as follows: Hailey Brannock (124), Teagan Lloyd (143), Leah Caldwell (145), and Josie Taylor (153).

Looking for a trip to the stare tournament, McGlothin and the Lady Hounds moved into district play at the Pickaway Country Club in Circleville on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Those results weren’t available at press time but look for a report in a future issue of The People’s Defender.
