Adams County Library News

By Allison Burton-

The Adams County Public Library’s Curbside Meal Service Program began on Monday, June 22 and will last until Friday, Aug. 15. Please call your library upon arrival to receive your meals. Each branch will offer this service once a week, from noon- 3 p.m. The Manchester Library will offer meals on Tuesdays, the West Union Library on Wednesdays, the Peebles Library on Thursdays, and the North Adams Library on Fridays. Children, ages 18 and younger, will receive a bag of five balanced meals for the week. Children can pick up their meals, as well as parents and caregivers. If you are picking up meals for your children, please state their names. The meals for this program are provided by the Children’s Hunger Alliance.
Also beginning this week is the reopening of our curbside pickup and drive-thru services, which are only for the pickup of items placed on hold. Social distancing will be practiced during these services to help ensure the health and safety of both our patrons and staff, and you must be 16 years old or older to pickup items. Each Adams County Public Library branch has different hours and days for these services. The Manchester Library’s curbside pickup hours are Tuesdays from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. and Thursdays from 3- 7 p.m. The North Adams Library’s drive-thru and curbside pickup hours are Mondays from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3- 7 p.m. The Peebles Library’s curbside operating hours are Tuesdays from 3- 7 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. Lastly, the West Union Library’s curbside pickup hours are Mondays from 3- 7 p.m. and Wednesdays from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. In addition, all Adams County Public Library branches will be open for curbside services on Fridays from 1- 5 p.m. and all locations will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Each library’s curbside pickup operations are slightly different, so if you have any questions please call your local library branch.
In addition, you can now sign-up for our 2020 Summer Reading Program “Imagine Your Story!” For this year’s completely virtual Summer Reading Program, you can sign-up and log your reading hours using the free Beanstack app and website, which is available on our website: adamscolibrary.org. To earn a cool completion prize, the reading goals for each age group are Kids (Ages 0-9) = 10 hours; Teens (Ages 10-17) = 16 hours; and Adults (Ages 18+) = 20 hours.
Although our buildings are currently closed to the public, our book clubs are still going strong. The North Adams Library’s Adult Book Club will meet via Zoom at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 25 to discuss the historical fiction book “The Only Woman in the Room” by Marie Benedict. This powerful novel is based on the incredible true story of the glamour icon and scientist Hedy Lemarr, who escaped Nazi Germany and moved to Hollywood to start a new life. You can download this e-book from Hoopla Digital or OverDrive using your library card and PIN number. Please check Facebook for the meeting’s Zoom details.
