Adams County Library News

By Allison Burton

Although we are currently closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we would like to share some literary fun with our “Book Cover Selfie Challenge.” In celebration of National Library Week (Sunday, April 19 through Saturday, April 25), recreate a book cover of your choice using items you can find around your home, then post your selfie on Facebook and tag us using @Adams County Public Library. Consider using a pot as a hat, a broom as sword, or a rain jacket as a cloak. Your only limit is your imagination, so get creative and think outside the box to replicate the covers of your favorite books. We will share your Book Cover Selfie on our Facebook page to showcase your creativity, passion for books, and love for your local library.
Also beginning next week, you can tune-in to the C103 Country radio station from 9:50- 10 a.m. Monday through Friday to listen to the new “Radio Readers” program. In an effort to help reach citizens of Adams and Brown County without access to digital resources, the Adams County Public Library has partnered with the Brown County Public Library and the Union Township Public Library to share literary works in a new way. During this program, an employee from one of these libraries will read a children’s book, adult short story, or poem by beloved authors like Beatrix Potter and Edgar Allan Poe. The stories change every day, so set your radios to 103.1 FM, sit back, and enjoy.
If you miss one of our adult short story or poem narrations on the radio, or want to listen to it again, you can access them on Facebook as part of our “Read Aloud YA” event. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m. we will post new recordings of these classic short stories and poems on our Adams County Public Library (Ohio) Facebook page. Each post will also provide interesting information about the literary work and its author. With this event, teens and adults can listen, learn, and discover new favorites from classic writers like Kate Chopin and O. Henry.
Remember, every weekday we post a new ACPL Virtual Storytime video on our Facebook and YouTube channel. These videos feature some of our amazing library staff, including our Youth Outreach Specialist Deborah Cumberledge, our Enrichment Services Coordinator Julia McCane-Knox, Peebles Library’s Public Service Team Leader Sherry Thompson, and three of our Library Programmers. Complete with books, songs, rhymes, and craft recommendations, these fun and educational videos help bring the magic of Storytime to your home during this challenging time.
Library Resource Spotlight: Have questions about library resources? We now have a virtual chat on our website: adamscolibrary.org. Between 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, the chat is live so you can ask questions and receive quick answers from an Adams County Public Library employee. After these hours, you can still send us your questions via email and we will respond as quickly as possible.
All Adams County Public Library locations will be closed until further notice. For updates and digital resources, please check our social media. Stay safe and healthy!
