She has done it numerous times in her stellar four-year career at Peebles and senior pitcher Madison Pierce put another accomplishment in her record book on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Indians hosted the North Adams Lady Devils and Pierce was “perfect” in the 13-0 Peebles win, facing 15 hitters and retiring all 15, 13 of those via the strikeout. The Lady Devils’ offense only put two balls in play while the Peebles offense pounded out 14 hits in just four at-bats on their way to the run-rule win that improved their record to 18-2 on the spring.
Pierce was nothing short of dominant over her five innings of work, recording 12 of her 13 strikeouts swinging, and allowing just a pop up to first off the bat of North Adams’ Macey Jarvis and a ground out to third by Alaina Eiterman.
As it normally is, the Peebles offense was in full attack mode, jumping ahead with a three-run first inning, two of those coming home on a double by Kylie Sims and the other on a two-bagger by Kyndell Lloyd. The Lady Indians added two more in the bottom half of the third, one scoring on a single by Christian Reed, with a Hope Brown RBI ground out then making it 5-0.
If the outcome of the game was ever in doubt with the way Pierce was pitching, the Peebles hitters erased all doubt in the bottom of the fourth when they sent 13 batters to plate and scored eight times, getting base hits that drove home two runs each from Reed and Jerilin Toller. In the top of the fifth, Pierce finished off her “perfecto” with back-to-back strikeouts and the Lady Indians had their 18th “W” of the season.
Five different Lady Indians had two hits in the win- Reed, Lloyd, Brycelyn Short, Marissa Moore, and MacKenzie Farahay.
Weather permitting, the Lady Indians were slated to host Paint Valley on Thursday afternoon, as they prepare for sectional tournament action that begins next week.
