Robert L. Monroe, 82 years of Peebles, Ohio, passed away on Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, at the Laurels of Hillsboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Robert was born in Adams County, Ohio, on Feb. 15, 1936, the son of the late Lewis and Hazel (McCoy) Monroe. Robert worked in the lumber business, running his own sawmill.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Velma Joann (Cross) Monroe, who passed away on Sept. 17, 2008; a son, James Monroe; and a grandchild. He is survived by two sons, Jeff (Pat) Monroe of Peebles and Joe (Kim) Monroe of Tennessee; and two daughters, Janie (Robert) Blair of Kentucky and Joyce (Tim) Turner of Sinking Spring. Robert also leaves behind a brother, Charlie Monroe of Arizona; and a sister, Ruby Owens of Batavia. Robert’s passing will be mourned by his nine grandchildren, and his 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at  1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles, Ohio. The ceremony will be officiated by Dave Hopkins and Richard Lloyd. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. on Friday, prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
