It will go down in conference history as one of the most bizarre golf tournaments on record. The 2018 Southern Hills Athletic Conference Girls Golf Tournament tried everything to find its completion, but Mother nature was having none of that. Delay after delay and reschedule after reschedule finally left the girls’ golfers with what amounted to a 12-hole tournament instead of the planned 18, with a formula that might need Einstein to explain to get to the final results.
However it was tabulated, the golfers from Adams County stood tall through all the crazy weather to claim 10 of the 14 spots on the All-SHAC Team for 2018. Adams County also had the winning individual golfer and the championship team in the SHAC, with North Adams’ Brooklyn Tolle taking the individual crown and the Lady Devils crowned as the SHAC Champions, earning Coach Matt Williams SHAC Coach of the Year honors, with his squad that consists solely of freshmen and sophomores.
Tolle’s final score for the tourney was 44, five strokes better than West Union’s Lindsey Daniel, who shot 49 for the Lady Dragons, who placed second overall in the final team standings. The Manchester Lady Greyhounds made it a clean county sweep of the top three team spots, with freshman Kileigh Mitchell leading the Lady Hounds, shooting a 60.
Seven other county golfers were named to the All-SHAC Team: Madison Fulton, West Union (53); Jessie Crawford, North Adams (55), Nicole Burns, Peebles (59); Linda Lynch, West Union (61); Emily Sweeney, Manchester (62); Larissa Clift, North Adams (64); and Darrington White, Manchester (64).
Final Team Standings: North Adams 228, West Union 245, Manchester 254, Fairfield 256, Lynchburg 264, Peebles 266, Eastern Brown 288, Fayetteville 318
