Mrs. Shirley Lewis is in her 50th year of teaching. This is her 38th year at the Adams County Christian School, with most of those as Administrator as well as teacher. This year she is teaching 7th and 8th grade Bible, 9th grade American History and 10th grade Government/Economics. The school asked a number of her students for the reflections on Mrs. Lewis.
• I started attending the Adams County Christian School during the sixth grade and am currently in eighth grade. I feel that coming to ACCS has had a big impact on my life, even though I am only 14, I understand the impact this move has had. I have had the opportunity of being in Mrs. Lewis’ class during my seventh grade year and am currently in her class this year during eighth as well. Mrs. Lewis has been one of the highlights of my time at ACCS. She has been so incredible in teaching me Bible. I have learned a lot in her class and feel that I have grown as a Christian. She helped me to gain the knowledge of learning the Bible and I have particularly gained a lot learning the chapter of Revelations. During my time learning this chapter of the Bible with Mrs. Lewis, I had my own revelation. I began to look at my life and wonder if I am right with the Lord. I know that I am a Christian, but as a young person, you often wonder if you are doing everything you can in your life for HIM. Being in Mrs. Lewis’ class has brought so much joy to my life and I enjoy learning so much more. One thing Mrs. Lewis does that I enjoy is singing. She has such a beautiful voice and I love hearing her sing the word of the gospel.

As a class, we sing along with her and we get to praise the Lord during class. My favorite song we sing is “Yahweh”. Mrs. Lewis also leads prayer with us every day. She always shows concern when we ask for prayer request and always lets us know our request matter no matter how big or small. Mrs. Lewis is a nurturing lady and shows us love daily. How many schools can say that they have a teacher that allows you to worship during school? Not only has Mrs. Lewis been a light in my life, but the ACCS has been as well. I love going to school and I love being around Christians all day every day. I can only imagine the impact Mrs. Lewis has had on others’ lives if she has shown me such kindness, love, respect, and concern during my time at ACCS so far. She is a wonderful person and a great teacher. I am blessed to know her and have her as my teacher. Thank you Mrs. Lewis!

• Mrs. Lewis has been teaching us about the book of Genesis. She is very passionate about Jesus, and loves to teach. I love hearing her tell about our marvelous Creator, and what He does for us. Mrs. Lewis always does whatever she can to help us learn everything we need to know. I’m so glad for this experience with her as my teacher.

• Although I’m new to the high school side, I found that Mrs. Lewis is one of the best
teachers. My brothers both had her as a teacher, and I was excited to enter her class. I think she is a wonderful teacher and I’m happy to have her as mine.

• “A good teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others.” Mustafa Kemal Ataturk
This quote is very true for Mrs. Lewis. She puts in the extra effort, so we as students can understand, grow and have a loving relationship with our Heavenly Father. She has a gift for teaching that you can’t learn in college.
Our family has known Mrs. Lewis for a long time. My Mom, uncle and aunt had Mrs. Lewis as their teacher. Last year, my Mom told me that she loved having Mrs. Lewis as her American History teacher. That year, I had her as my Bible teacher. I loved singing Christian songs with her and learning about God’s wonderful Word. This year when I found out that Mrs. Lewis was going to be my History teacher, I was very happy, but sad that she would not be my Bible teacher. This year I have discovered that history is fun. I have learned things in American History that I never knew about and things I will never forget. The work is sometimes hard, but it’s always worth it. I will greatly miss Mrs. Lewis ( and her M&M’s) when she retires. I’ll not just lose a teacher, but also a friend. I love you Mrs. Lewis and thank you for being an amazing teacher. I’m looking forward to the rest of this year!

• Mrs.Lewis has been a good teacher. She helps us learn more about God and the Bible. We sing in the morning and it helps all of us get through the day.She has been teaching for a long time so she has a lot of knowledge, and it is great that the Christian School has her.

• Mrs. Lewis is my favorite teacher. In the mornings we sing which is great and we also do prayer requests. She also teaches us about the Bible. Right now we’re halfway through the book of Genesis. Last year, we read the books Romans through Revelation. While reading the New Testament last year she had us learn the books of the New Testament, in order, with a song.
