The baseball coaches of the Southeast District have spoken and the result is the release of the 2018 Baseball All-District Teams. As always, the Southern Hills League is well represented with 18 young men honored with All-District recognition, seven of those players coming from Adams County schools, including a pair of Division III First Teamers in seniors Bryant Lung from North Adams and Jared Fenton from West Union.
Making the First Team in Div. III as a catcher and pitcher, Lung was solid his entire Green Devils career, and has already committed to continue his baseball career at Ohio Christian University. His senior year was certainly a solid one as he batted .453 and was 5-1 on the mound with a sparking 1.29 earned run average.
Fenton was named to the Div. III First Team as a first baseman and pitcher and in his senior campaign for the SHAC champion Dragons, the left-handed swinger hit .360 and as a southpaw on the mound, went 4-1 with a 1.77 ERA.
Two ore local athletes were named to the Div. III Second Team, West Union junior Brandan Cornell and North Adams junior Elijah Young. Cornell went 5-2 on the hill for the Dragons and contributed at the plate with a .356 batting average. Young was a versatile member of the SHAC runner-up Green Devils, hitting 333 and going 2-0 in his stints on the mound.
Honorable mention in Division III went to West Union’s Ryan Rothwell, who hit .419 and swiped eight bases without being caught. Also earning Honorable Mention recognition was Lynchburg Clay’s Drew Pitzer.
As might be expected in Division IV, the lists are dominated by members of the Whiteoak Wildcats, who made it all the way to the state semi-finals in a memorable season. Whiteoak’s Evan Brill, Traeten Hamilton, and Caleb West all were named to the First Team, along with Fairfield’s Sam Buddelmeyer.
Second Team honors in Division IV went to Whiteoak’s Chase Carraher and Fairfield’s Austin Setty.
Two more Adams Countians found their names on the Division IV Honorable Mention list, both from the Manchester Greyhounds- senior Gage Lucas and freshman Kyle Reaves. Also earning Honorable Mention in Div. IV were Whiteoak’s Trever Yeager and Mason Lehr, plus Fairfield’s Cody Gragg and Matthew Spears.
The Coaches of the Year were Minford’s Aaron Hopper in Division III and Whiteoak’s Chris Veidt in Division IV, both of who guided their respective teams to regional championships and berths in the 2018 state tournament.
