A Peebles youth who swept away the competition at the annual WKA Daytona KartWeek races in Daytona, Beach, Florida last month has been selected “Driver of the Month” by
Racing in the inaugural IAME KA 100 division, Colin Neal, a sophomore at Peebles High School, dominated the competition during the two day event in Daytona achieving a perfect sweep.
“We choose the one driver who stands out above the rest,” said an eKartingNews representative. “We want to give our viewers a chance to know exactly what they accomplished and who they are.”
On day one of KartWeek, Neal maintained the lead in all 12 laps of the pre-final. On day two, he led all 20 laps to win the inaugural KA 100 as a rookie Senior driver.
Neal, who competes in the WKA Manufacturers Cup/SKUSA Pro Tour, has been racing for five years.
The son of Brian and Abbie Neal, he says his father was instrumental in helping him achieve his racing goals.
“My Dad thought it was something I should get into,” he says. “We started at a local level, and soon moved on to the regional and national levels of karting.”
Sponsored by Vemme Kart USA, Allison Racing Engines, and Team Felon, Neal says his favorite things about kart racing are “the competition, the adrenaline rush, and spending time with family and friends.”
“We’re all very proud of him,” says his grandfather, Wayne Setty. “He’s a natural, but he’s also worked hard for what he’s earned.”
In addition to his IAME KA victory, Neal has also won the 2016 WKA Grand Nationals, and is set to compete in the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series along with the SKUSA Pro Tour events in 2018. Additional events include the SKUSA SuperNationals and the upcoming Challenge of the Americas event in Phoenix, AZ.
