Ed and Carol Hanks of Cary, N.C. were married at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Covington, Ky., on Feb. 19, 1966 and will be celebrating 50 years of marriage.

Carol A. Ellison was born in Manchester, Ohio to James and Helen Ellison. Edward J. Hanks, Jr. was born in Covington, Ky. to Edward Sr. and Lillian Hanks. After honeymooning in Michigan, the couple moved to Cary, N.C. in 1967. Carol is a retired registered nurse. Ed was employed by the US EPA, retiring after 41 years of service. Both enjoy attending their grandchildren’s activities and spending time with friends and family at their house on Lake Gaston, N.C.

The Hanks have two children: E.J. Hanks of Fuquay Varina, N.C. and Leigh Ann (Robert) McGarrigle of Sayerville, N.J. They also have two grandsons, Andrew and Austin Hanks of Fuquay Varina, N.C.

The couple will celebrate 50 years of marriage with their original attendant, Carol’s sister, and husband of Cincinnati, and the original best man and ushers with their spouses, all from Kentucky, with a special dinner at Walt’s Hitching Post in Kentucky. They will also celebrate with family at the Forest Hills Care Center in Cincinnati, current home of the mother of the bride, Helen Ellison, a longtime West Union resident.
