Local Third Grade students from West Union Elementary participated for the month of December in Project Christmas Caring. This project was thought up by the third grade teachers to teach the spirit of giving to their students. The teachers incorporated writing fact and opinion pieces with whether it was more fun to give or receive. Throughout doing the writing project, the students kept saying they would like to put their opinion, that giving is better, into action. The students unanimously voted to give up their traditional passing or book exchange parties to give to those in need.

Partnering with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the students collected almost 300 items.

“The students were so willing to be giving back to children who are unable to go home for Christmas and have to spend their holiday in the hospital,” third grade teacher Christy Baldwin explained. “We are incredibly proud of our students. Mrs. Young, another third grade teacher reported, “ It speaks volumes of their character to put others before themselves.”

The third grade team at West Union Elementary wishes to thank all those in the community that helped make this project a success.
