CHILLICOTHE—The Southeast District Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association hosted their annual senior All-Star games at Chillicothe High School on Sunday, Nov. 8, with a number of Adams County All-District athletes participating in both the boys and girls games.

Taking part in the All-Star game from the three Adams County schools who field soccer programs were: Girls- Cati Butler (North Adams), Lakyn Hupp (North Adams), Taylor Wylie (North Adams), Shanien Swango (Peebles), and Donna Brodt (West Union); Boys- Drew Coppock (North Adams), Aaron Pertuset (North Adams), Brennan Simms (Peebles), and Mac Wilson (West Union).

The Girls’ ‘West’ team defeated the ‘East’ team 3-1 with all the scoring coming in the first half. In the Boys’ game, the ‘West’ team won 5-2 over the ‘East.’

Girls Game: West 3, East 1

The West team struck twice in 32 seconds. With 24:41 left in the first half, Lexi Maugher of Unioto scored. Then with 24:09 remaining in the half, Kayla Tomlin of Eastern Brown slipped a ball passed the East keeper. West led 2-0.

Two minutes later, the East team’ Amelia Bragg of Jackson sent a corner kick from the left corner to the middle of the penalty box where Elizabeth Nedved of Circleville headed the ball into the goal to cut the lead to 2-1 with 22:02 left in the first half.

The final goal came with 15 minutes left in the first half when Cati Butler of North Adams, as part of the West team, curved a corner kick untouched around the front post and dropped it just inside the back post.

Boys Game: West 5, East 2

In the Boys’ game, the East team took the early lead when the two Athens players connected for a score. With 25:58 left in the first half, Victor Davis drove the right touchline and crossed the ball to his Bulldog teammate, Dustin Goetz, for the score.

The lead held for just four minutes and a half minutes. With 21:17 left in the first half, Chillicothe’s Jason Johansen drove into the penalty box and hit from 15 yards out to tie the game 1-1.

The West team took the lead with 11:19 left in the first half when Noah Scott of Lynchburg Clay chased down a deflection in the left corner and drove back to the goal and put the shot in the far corner. West led 2-1 at half time.

In the second half, West scored three more times. With 25:58 remaining, Zane Trace’s Josh Manasco collected a deflection near the goal and put in the close shot. Four minutes later, North Adams’ Aaron Pertuset scored an unassisted goal. Just 1:04 later, Josh Manasco (ZT) crossed the ball to Preston Schultz of Logan Elm for the dark team’s final goal. The West led 5-1.

The East cut the lead with 12:22 left to lay when Logan Carpenter of Gallia Academy crossed the ball to Wesley Stephens of Chesapeake for the goal.
