The Manchester football team was no match for Miami Valley Christian Academy as the visiting Greyhounds were blanked by the Lions, 48-0 on a rain-soaked field on Saturday night, Oct. 21.

With the loss, the Greyhounds are sitting with a 1-8 record, riding a nightmare of an eight-game losing streak and are mathematically elimanted from any playoff chances.

The Lions (7-1) were in control throughout and senior Bransen Vilardo came up big for the home team as he walked away with three rushing touchdowns while throwing for a fourth. An 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by James Heaton was also a highlight for MVCA, who are likely headed to the postseason.

It was a small stat sheet for the Greyhounds in the loss. Senior quarterback Jordan Freeman racked up 62 rushing yards and threw for 68 but the Greyhounds were able to do little more than that to move the ball.

Individually, senior wide receiver Sean Frost was able to haul in three receptions for 60 of Freeman’s 68 yards.

Manchester has one more game to get off the near season-long losing streak at home this Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Hillcrest Academy on Senior Night. Seniors of the football and cheerleading squads along with the band will be recognized.
