A serious car accident on Saturday, Sept. 19 near Peebles resulted in one person being severely injured.

The Ohio State Patrol and emergency crews responded to the accident on State Route 73 at approximately 12 p.m.

According to Trooper Kyle Chamblin, the male juvenile driver of a tan Mercury Sable was eastbound on State Route 73 when he attempted to overtake and pass another vehicle.

While his vehicle was operating at a higher speed ,he failed to negotiate a return to the right lane.

Losing control, the 17-year old driver from Hillsboro careened past the shoulder of the road and crashed into the trees. The passenger in the Mercury Sable, a nine year old boy also from Hillsboro, suffered serious injuries.

First responders to the accident scene called for air-care backup. The child was flown to Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

His condition remained unknown at press time.

The driver of the Mercury Sable was not injured, nor was the driver or passengers in the second car.
