Much of the corn has dropped and most of the soybeans have turned. The dry month of September has made much of the crop dry down a little faster, so the big equipment will be on the roads for the next few weeks. This is just a reminder to all to be safe on the roads.

Keep in mind that the combines wide and slow. They were not made to run 65 mph. Yes, I said 65, because it seems that 55 mph with a trailer is never fast enough. Cars just seem to not want to follow a truck and trailer or farm equipment even when they run 55 mph.

In reality, most farm equipment will not travel over 25 mph, thus the slow moving vehicle (SMV) sign. Motorists, please be patient and not take unnecessary chances to pass this large equipment regardless if it highway department or farm equipment. Also, if you the person operating the slow moving equipment, please be courteous and pull over when the opportunity is available to allow motorist to pass and keep traffic flowing. Everyone just be safe.
