Throughout Ohio we have seen crops damaged by the amount of rainfall that we had during the past couple of months. This week’s CORN Newsletter addresses some crop diseases that are showing up in unexpected places. Dr. Anne Dorrance addresses some of the disease pressure that is showing up.

The CORN newsletter is a result of a Monday morning conference call that includes OSU ANR Extension Educators, OSU Extension Field Specialists, and OSU Extension State Specialists. This summer it also includes some interns that are working with us to scout fields. You can read the CORN newsletter at http://corn.osu.edu.

Forage Testing Opportunity

With the recent dry spell there have been several acres of hay harvested in the past few days. Unfortunately many of these acres were the first hay harvested on these fields this year. The hay is not likely to be very good quality for feed. The ideal time to harvest was probably over two months ago for most of the cool season grass hay.

We are looking for opportunities to test some hay and some soil on hay fields. If you are interested please send me an e-mail at dugan.46@osu.edu . This will be a project that we are doing as an EERA (Extension Education Research Area) which is made up of 10 counties here in Southern Ohio. There is limited funding to do this project so it will be only a few, so if you are interested, please send a message.

We will try to find out how good or poor the hay is. Then use the results to estimate what might need to be done going into this winter.

Estate Planning

I posted a few stories in the past weeks concerning Estate Planning. I did that to spark some interest and I have had several calls. I am still working on it, but it is coming together a little slower than I had hoped. I hope to have final details soon. I will have it in this newspaper and on local radio once everything is set.
