Finally released after the state tournament came to a conclusion, the 2014 Southeast District All-District Softball teams have been announced and the Southern Hills Athletic Conference is well represented on the lists. No less than 21 girls from the SHAC earned some type of All-District recognition with two young ladies from Adams County being named to the Division IV First Team.
North Adams pitcher Jade Spriggs was named to the First Team along with Manchester shortstop Morgan Johnson. With that honor came the opportunity to play in the District All-Star Game (look for photo elsewhere in today’s sports pages). Both girls are just sophomores at their respective schools and it is safe to say that their names may just appear on these lists again in the future.
Adams County schools were represented in Division IV on the All-District Second Team by Peebles freshman Aubrey McFarland and Honorable Mention recognition went to Brett Himes, Brook Henley, and Kari Foster from Manchester as well as Jessica Sowards from Peebles and Karly Boerger from North Adams.
SHAC softball teams are likely already dreading facing the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats next season as the Lady Cats’ fire balling junior hurler was named the Division IV District Player of the Year. Also on the District IV First Team were Fairfield’s Shelby Smithson and Halie Chain.
Division IV Second Team honors went to Fairfield’s Arica Melson and Kaitlin Evans with Whiteoak’s Jayde Parr receiving Honorable Mention.
In Division III, Eastern Brown’s Mikayla Purdy was named to the First Team, with Lynchburg’s Madyson Creighton named to the Second Team. Earning Honorable Mention in Division III were Purdy’s teammates Savannah Newman, McKenzie Scott, and Hannah Dotson along with Lynchburg’s Hannah Binkley and Haley McConnaughey.
In Ohio softball, the state champions were North Canton Hoover in Division I, Lima Bath in Division II, Williamsport Westfall in Division III, and Cuyahoga Heights in Division IV.
