It was a road date across county lines on Aug. 26 for Coach Carl Schneider and his West Union Dragons boys golf squad as they traveled to Buttermilk Falls Golf Course in Georgetown to battle in a tri-match with host Ripley and the CNE Rockets.
Thanks to some solid scores all the way through, the Dragons came out victorious, topping fellow Southern Hills Athletic Conference member Ripley by a total of 29 strokes.
The star of the day for West Union was senior Brandon Daniel, who shot a 35 for nine holes, earning medalist honors for the day. Daniel birdied two holes and parred three and only needed 11 putts to post his winning score. Right behind Daniel for the Dragons was Adams County Cup champion Craig Horton, who used three birdies on his way to shooting a 37 for the day.
Elijah McCarty and Tyler Fowler sealed the deal for the Dragons, both shooting 40, gaining a number of strokes on the three and four men from Ripley and CNE. Kyle Taylor continued to improve as he shot a 49 for the winners.
Ripley’s top golfer for the day was Dylan Phillips as the standout sophomore shot 41 for the match. Phillips was followed by senior Jon Dunn’s 43. For CNE, the top score belonged to Jared Ansteatt with a 39.
