Forty six runners and walkers gathered on Aug. 16 at the Salamon Airport outside of West Union for the 18th annual Marine Corps League 5K Run/Walk.Chad Sexton of Mt. Orab was the overall male winner in the run, while Manchester’s Xena Crummie was the first female runner to cross the finish line.


In the men’s race, two other young men from Manchester finished strong with Ethan Pennywitt taking second overall and Brendon Kessler third. More Greyhounds crowded the top of the girls results with Kelsey Friend placing second and Lydia Lopez third.


The age group winners in the race were: 12 and under male- Carson King, 13-15 male-Austin Stamper, 16-18 female-Amanda Farthing, 16-18 male-Justin Tenhundfeld, 19-29 male-Timmy Whaley, 30-39 female-Jessica Setty, 30-39 male-Wes Truesdale, 40-49 female-Donna Martinez, 50-59 female-Michelle Lewis, 50-59 male-Randy Lewis, 60+ female-Suzie Tabor, and 60+ male-Chris Engle.


The top finisher of all the walkers was Nancy Zadek.


The Bobby D. White Detachment of the Marine Corps League appreciates all of the participants and the support of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, the West Union Life Squad, the DeForest Amateur Radio Club, the Salamon Airport Commission, the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Ripley, and the Richmond Insurance Agency.
