kNext Friday night, Aug. 22, will mark a historic night in Adams County football as the two varsity football squads from West Union and Manchester will meet on the gridiron for the first time since the 1979-80 season. The game is not a regular season but rather a pre-season contest, being dubbed as an Ohio High School Athletic Association Foundation Game. Everything will be played as it would in a regular season contest, with it being the last tune-up for both teams before they begin their seasons the following weekend.
With the game having some historical significance, the host Greyhounds are sending out the call for football alumni from the two schools to attend the game. Anyone from West Union or Manchester who played football in the 1970s before football was disbanded is invited to come to the game and be recognized in pre-game ceremonies.
Football alumni are encouraged to be at Greyhound Stadium by 7 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. kickoff. If you are interested in attending the game, please contact Manchester High School Athletic Director Chris Young at 937-549-4777.
